What Determines Window Replacement Cost in London?

In London, the cost of a window replacement will be determined the following factors:

  • The type & quality of the materials used
  • Energy-efficiency capabilities
  • Additional performance-enhancing features (such as speciality hardware, blinds, or screens)
  • The level of service provided by your installer

What Features Should You Look For in a New Replacement Window?

A good quality replacement window will have all of the following features. While your new window doesn’t necessarily need to check off each of these, it’s important to consider which features are worth it for your home.

1. Quality Window Frames

When choosing between window frames, homeowners often choose vinyl frames because they’re affordable, low maintenance and thermally efficient. The catch? Without any reinforcement, these frames lack strength, rigidity and durability, making them highly susceptible to wear-and-tear and expansion and contraction from fluctuating temperatures. This might mean that those “affordable” vinyl frames end up costing more than you anticipated after repairs and replacement down the line.

Hybrid Fusion Frames® from Magic consist of a skeleton of stainless steel and anodized aluminum, providing the vinyl shell with the reinforcement it lacks to create a stronger, more well-rounded frame. This way, we’re able to offer the best qualities of vinyl without any of the drawbacks. It also means you can enjoy low-maintenance, thermally efficient frames you can count on season after season.

2. Energy-Efficient Capabilities

Energy efficient windows are estimated to save approximately $125 to $340 in savings on your energy bill annually. When you apply this over the 30 years it could take before you need another window replacement, you could be saving up to $10,200!

Here are the key features that make up a truly efficient window:

  • Low-E Coated Window Glass

Adding a layer of low-emissivity (or low-e) coating to window glass ensures that windows are insulating at the highest level. This layer is a transparent, very thin coating added to the glass to help control solar radiation passing through the glass.

For Ontario homeowners, where the weather changes drastically from hot to cold over the year, we at Magic Windows use a balanced low-e formula – the ClimaGuard 70/36.

  • Insulated Window Filling

Insulated window fillings will also help to keep heat from escaping through the window. Heavy gases, such as krypton, argon and xenon, are used to fill the space between glass panes to resist air transfer and retain heat. The more gas used to fill this gap, the better the insulation.

Our innovative approach to glass formulation allows us to extend the gap between panes to a full inch, allowing for 25% – 50% more gas filling when compared to most manufacturers.

  • Warm-Edge Window Spacers

Warm-edge window spacers act as a seal that insulate the edges of the window, keeping the glass panes apart from each other. These spacers are vital in a window’s ability to remain energy efficient over the long term.

At Magic, we use a duralight soft edge spacer made of a 4-layer material that naturally expands and contracts with any movement of the unit. This makes seal failure virtually impossible.

3. Additional Performance-Enhancing Features

Looking for additional features that can maximize your window’s day-to-day efficiency, long-term performance, and augment the ‘Wow!’ factor? Look no further:

  • Crankless Hardware

When designing our casement window, we decided to turn away from outdated crank hardware. With our patented Parallex® hardware, homeowners can open their window by sliding the sash seamlessly along a horizontal axis, eliminating the frustration of cranking open a heavy window or dealing with faulty cranks.

  • Retractable Insect Screens

Insect screens block light and outdoor views, and can easily get clogged with dirt and allergens over time. Our patented Retractable Slide ‘N’ Hide® technology addresses these issues while also prolonging the screen’s lifespan by allowing you to easily control when and where to use your screens.

  • Built-In Solar Screens

Our solar screens are retractable screens that allow for full control over how much light and heat enters through a window. This feature gives you the option to control the amount of potentially harmful UV rays entering your home.

  • Built-In Thermal Blinds

These blinds are also fully retractable and can double the insulation on a window, preventing internal air from escaping. They have the ability to completely block out light and provide increased privacy and security.
