If you are about to get replacement windows in your Toronto, Ontario home, hold fast! You’re almost there! Replacement windows are a big investment and they take time and effort to pick out. Once you have them in place, though, you won’t be sorry. They’ll look great, lower your energy bills, and bring further comfort to your home. You can’t ask for much more than that! However, before the installation process begins, you’ll want to hit as many of the items on this to-do list as you can.
Your wall may be covered with family photos or you may have a few well-chosen pieces of art on the walls. Whatever you have on walls that are shared with windows, remove them and put them somewhere safe. Your installation team will work with care not to damage any of your items, but when you are taking windows out and putting replacement windows in, the walls get quite a bit of activity, which can easily jar pictures loose and send them to the floor.
If you have a couch in front of the windows or a bed that is very close by, you’ll want to move those up against a wall that doesn’t have windows that are going to be replaced. The installers will need a large, clear path to work so they can get the replacement windows in with as much ease as possible.
Create a Path
Speaking of a path, you will also want to clear the floor from the door to the windows as much as possible. Move area rugs and things that could trip the installers. Make sure dog or kid’s toys are put away and out of the path. Carrying windows is hard work and anything you can do to facilitiate the process can help speed things up.
Plan for Pets and Kids
Pets can get afraid when they have people in their home that they don’t know, especially if those people are making a lot of noise and disrupting their daily life. If at all possible, have your pet out of the home during the replacement window installation. Ask a neighbor or family member to host the pet for the day. If nothing else, keep the pet isolated in a room as far away from the noise as possible. It is also jarring to have children underfoot. No installer wants any harm to come to a child and they are often very curious about what is going on. Have them go to a friend’s for a playdate or entertain them outside and away from the action.
